Ok heres the situation.
I've had my car for a few months now but only went to transfer the rego into my name yesterday. RTA chick tells me theres an outstanding defect on the car from the previous owner which I'm aware of.
Rang EPA this morning to book the car in (I thought it was to do with exhaust noise). They said they've got nothing on their data base.
Rang RTA up and they reckon a blue slip is all I need to clear 'everything'.
My question is what type of defects are there? EPA, RTA, Police?
What are the difference?

A blue slip is just a more indpeth road worthy check. They will go over the car and check everything from oil leaks, brakes, brake lines, tyres, etc. It will be easier to pass then anything to do with the EPA. Basically you just got to any mechanic that can do blue slips and give it to them and fix what they ask, or you may be lucky and it passes. Then take your slip to the rta and get rego.

I work in QLD but my car is in Sydney. Anyone know of any 'good' blue slip places?
The car is dead stock so I'm not too worried about passing.
I agree the EPA part is a pain in the arse...luckily I've got the pea shooter standard exhaust lying in the garage for instances like this.
Will I pass blue slip with a cat-back exhaust?

You can get a defect for ANYTHING...
EPA is only one or two concerning noise and emissions.
The defect could have been for bald tyres, or a blown light globe... window tint is too dark....
It could have literally been for anything.
If the EPA issue you a defect, it will always be noise or emissions related, due to modification.
The rest are issued by the police. These are generally cleared by replacing said defective object and getting a blue slip to clear it. Then you take said blue slip to the RTA, and they clear it.

DEFECTS:mad:
I got done for non standard bonnet, mirrors and a shitload more.
I deregistered the car as i had no time and money to clear as the exhaust was to loud and bought another one, missed out on BT one by 2 weeks. And had to make a custom airbox (wat a pain in the as)

Yeah tell me about it. I remember my first time getting defected I was casually filling up at that 7-11 in Milperra next to Bankstown Airport one night. Next thing I knew high way patrol blocks my car infront then tells me to follow him after I finish filling up. I mean I wasn't even driving for pete sake!
Anyone know if this was even legal for them to pull me over on private property? He could of waited until I at least drove off before rounding me up.
I get taken to the back of the airport where the EPA had setup some massive defect station where they check everything. After like an hour in the queue I came out with only exhaust, filters and tyres. Luckily for me I didn't get my car towed away like some people did :p
I did however go to a blue slip place somewhere which I won't mention and he passed my filters because it was next to impossible to find a standard airbox at the time.
Moral of the story is defects are a headache when you don't need them and a waste of time having to fix them. Glad my car is bone stock....for now anyway.
