Did anyone get log books with their FD? Did they ever come with one??

I'm guessing most cars do??? Any chance of scanning a couple of pages from the book so I can make my own? lol (I didn't get one with mine..)

Cheers.

Yeah, they have them. Owners manuals, you mean.

Can't copy them though...they're still in Japan at the moment.

I'm getting the full service history too.

All this is being mailed to me, apparently it's not uncommon for books to go missing on the docks in Japan.

That's so awesome. Very rare stuff.

I didn't risk it and had the original build sheet and original Californian black plate mailed to me on my Charger too. You'd die if it went missing.

It is very rare.

Especially for the Japanese cars.

Not that impressed RICE.

My owners manual/service docs will come here and will be completely unreadable without the aid of a local Japanese speaking private schoolgirl.

Is there something weird over there with regards to the service schedule??

My RZ is coming here with a 30 page service history, but the thing has only done 15,000Km .

And people say imports are 'dodgy' and not looked after compared to local cars.

Typical Australian, fearful, bullshit.

You'll understand when you get it.

Re: docks - I think it's a rule with auction cars, rather than obvious dodginess - I think they take out everything in the glove box, etc (anything not nailed down)

Re: docks - I think it's a rule with auction cars, rather than obvious dodginess - I think they take out everything in the glove box, etc (anything not nailed down)

I just spoke to my broker in Japan about this.

My RZ was a one owner car sold at auction and purchased by a car yard. It's being supplied to me with books and a full service history provided. Both the original owner and the dealer had the opportunity to throw away the books...the auction house did too, I suppose.

I'm told that most cars from Japan are sold with books. Unscrupulous sellers will dispose of any service history to hide the amount of km's travelled (ie: speedo has been wound back), or any major mechanical surgery. I'm not saying that no books = dodgy history....just that an opportunity exists to make all sorts of false claims when there is no information to the contrary.

As a vendor, I'd be very pissed off if an auction house disposed of my cars original documentation. Most (...if not all!) buyers would want that stuff.

I'm glad that in my case, USS auctions didn't remove them.

My car doesn't have them. Even if the books are there at auction, there are plenty of places for them to go after that. Docks would be a super place to have them disappear. Which is why I had my '68 Charger's original documentation sent direct to me.

I'd be surprised if if had travelled more kms though. Given comp. test reading, interior, suspension and engine bay condition. :)

All the service books etc were sent by mail to me along with all the alarm system controller key fobs etc etc. It was nice owning all these when my car was still in Japan! I still don't know anything about anything (including how to use the alarm) as EVERYTHING (naturally) is in Japanese.

Don't worry too much though mate. My car was immaculate when it arrived with barely a mark on it. I was at least expecting to need a bit of bodywork clean up from door dents etc. but I just needed to get some touch up paint for a couple of very small scrapes that had taken the surface paint off in places that didn't show much anyway. I bought a can of spray paint matched perfectly to Mazda Sunburst Yellow at Anchor Paints for $25. I spray a bit onto cardboard and use a cloth or small brush to apply.

I am impressed at how well some Japanese people look after their cars. I found mine on the USS auction site too and had J-spec act on my behalf. No complaints!

My books arrived a few days ago and they are incredible .

How's this for "doing it properly"...twelve services in 15,000km!!!

Purchase date: 27/6/2001.

1000km service: 01/09/2001
2700km service: 13/03/2002
3470km service: 13/06/2002
4317km service: 22/12/2002
5892km service: 06/06/2003
7401km service: 23/11/2003
8458km service: 27/05/2004
9106km service: 20/11/2004
10161km service: 11/06/2005
11576km service: 30/05/2006
13059km service: 21/05/2007
14715km service: 26/11/2007

The car was then purchased by the dealer with 14,997km on the clock. The detail recorded in the maintenance log is amazing. Tailpipe emissions are measured and recorded (Hydrocarbons 5PPM, CO .01%), the cars dimensions and weight is recorded, .3 litre of this fluid added, .7 litre of that fluid. Incredible detail.......and proof that the mileage is genuine too.

I'm rapt to have them, obviously :D.
